Holidays in Georgia

The number of holidays in Georgia reflects its rich culture and history. These holidays include both secular and religious festivals.

While many events are celebrated in Georgia, 16 holidays are officially established by the Labour Code of Georgia. Most businesses and government offices are closed during these holidays.

Check out the list of these holidays from the Labour Code below and their meaning.

• January 1 and 2 – New Year holidays.

• January 7 – Christmas.

• January 19 – Epiphany (the Baptism of Jesus Christ).

• March 3 – Mother’s Day.

• March 8 – International Women’s Day.

• April 9 – Day of National Unity (the day of adopting the Act of Restoring Independence of Georgia and commemoration of people who died for the national integrity of Georgia).

• Easter holidays – Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday. (These holidays coincide with different dates each year and, like other religious holidays, are celebrated in accordance with the old Julian calendar.)

• May 9 – Victory Day over Fascism.

• May 12 – Day of Georgia as the abode of the Holy Mother; Commemoration Day of St. Andrew the Apostle, Founder of the Apostolic Church of Georgia; Day of Hope.

• May 26 – Independence Day of Georgia.

• August 28 – Mariamoba – the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

• October 14 – Mtskhetoba – also known as Svetitskhovloba, or the Robe of Jesus holiday.

• November 23 – St. George’s Day.
